Boxer Harry Garside shares behind the scenes of Katy Perry’s performance in the AFL grand final

Even though more than 100,000 soccer fans witnessed Katy Perry’s blockbuster performance in the AFL Grand Final on Saturday, Harry Garside appears to have taken the best seat in the room.

On Saturday, the 27-year-old boxer posted a short clip on Instagram showing the pre-match performance of the creator of the Teenage Dream hit.

In the footage, Harry can be seen walking into a large warehouse where he can be heard saying, “Oh my God,” before turning his phone around to reveal Katy in the middle of a last-minute rehearsal.

Harry looked genuinely surprised and happy to be in the same room as the American pop idol.

He ramped up the emotion in the caption, writing, “It’s Katy Perry omggg.”

Unfortunately, Harry, like the rest of the huge MGC audience, had to take his seat to watch Katy show off her entire set.

Katy’s 20-minute set included two songs from her latest album 143, Lifetimes and Wonderful, a collaboration with Kim Petras.

Despite the addition of new songs, it was the hits that got the crowd going and Katy hit the ground running with Roar before launching into her hits Teenage Dreams, Dark Horse and Firework.

Katy also belted out a rendition of I Kissed A Girl with Tina Arena, before the pair moved into a rendition of the Australian pop star’s hit song “Chains.”

Harry recently revealed that he had found love again after being heartbroken at the Paris Olympics.

The pugilist made an inspiring return to the ring after being cleared of domestic violence allegations made by his former partner, Ash Ruscoe.

On Saturday, the 27-year-old boxer posted a short clip on Instagram showing a fragment of the Teenage Dream hitmaker’s performance before the match.

In the footage, Harry can be seen walking into a large warehouse where he can be heard saying, “Oh my God,” before turning his phone around to reveal Katy in the middle of a last-minute rehearsal.

However, he failed to advance beyond the first round in Paris, later telling Nine that he “felt like a failure” having trained for 20 years only to fall at the first hurdle.

Reflecting on his sports journey with Nova 96.9, Garside revealed that he has a new romance.

“I had this weird ambition that maybe I could walk with giants, and I think on this 20-year journey I finally got to a place where I believed I could,” he said.

Harry said his new relationship came when he least expected it, vowing to focus solely on winning a gold medal.

“In the process, I actually fell in love… so it happened so out of the blue, which I think is the best kind of love… when you’re not looking for it, but it just kind of crept into my life,” he said.

Harry added that he was glad the shock defeat came at the age of 27, admitting that as a younger man he would have struggled to come to terms with such a result.

“If something like this had happened five years ago when I was a little younger and my whole identity had been wrapped up in being a boxer… what I felt and what I did in private to hurt myself. It was a little scary,” he said.
