The divorce of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck shocked the media in 2024. The couple fell in love in the early 2000s, but broke up in 2004. A year later, Affleck got involved with Jennifer Garner. Garner and Affleck were married until 2015 and finalized their divorce in 2018. The former remained friends, and paparazzi snapped photos of Garner and Affleck visiting each other during Lopez and Affleck’s difficult times in 2024.

An insider told In Touch Weekly that the divorce “took a toll” on Affleck.

“Ben may seem happy and cheerful. And for the most part it is, but it definitely has its bad moments,” the source explained. “Although he was relieved to have escaped from the marriage, the divorce still took its toll on him. His reputation has suffered enormous damage and he struggles with enormous guilt.

Although Affleck allegedly jumped into new projects, Garner became concerned about his drinking history. She and Affleck’s best friend, Matt Damon, reach out to each other to update on Affleck’s mental state.

“That’s the main reason why Jen comes there almost every day to make sure everything is OK,” the source continued. “His mother, brother and close friends like Matt Damon are also helping.”

The insider added that Garner, Damon and others are “very much a team and act as a de facto support group” for Affleck. “If they notice something disturbing, they immediately warn each other,” they said. “Ben knows everyone is in touch, but he doesn’t know what the extent is.”

While Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were experiencing difficulties in their marriage, several insiders claimed that Affleck would seek advice from Garner. Unfortunately, Affleck’s meeting with Garner was allegedly the “last straw” for Lopez.

“Seeing photos of them looking more like a couple than an ex-couple melted J.Lo; this was the push she needed to finally file for divorce,” a source told In Touch Weekly.

The source added that Lopez wondered if Affleck was using her as a “pawn” to get Garner back. Affleck allegedly gushed about Garner during his marriage to Lopez, which became a “huge problem” during the two years of their marriage “because every time they argued, he ran to Jen.”

J.Lo and her soon-to-be ex met with a divorce lawyer

Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck without a divorce lawyer. However, it appears that the couple turned to a professional for help. TMZ reports that on September 23, 2024, the former partners went to their West Hollywood home to talk to divorce lawyer Laura Wasser. Lopez and Affleck will likely not finalize their divorce until February 2025.

Wasser has a history with Affleck. She helped him mediate his divorce from Garner in 2018.
