Nothing announces your arrival and departure better than triggering anti-theft sensors in every store you enter, and that’s exactly what one of TikTok’s creators found herself in.

Arely (@arelyjanett) recently posted a video asking viewers to help her understand why her Coach bag was setting off alarms at every store she visited. Her video has since gone viral, racking up over 504,000 views.

Arely begins her video by walking through a mall and approaching the store entrance to demonstrate her dilemma.

“Every time I enter a store with security sensors, my bag beeps. I have no idea why. It’s literally so small I can’t really steal anything. So I’m not stealing, but watch this. Can someone tell me why?” she asked.

As he walks past the security sensors entering the store, alarms go off and echo in the background.

The video ends with “Embarrassing” written on the screen.

Why do coach bags set off alarms in stores?

This is not an isolated incident; There are other videos on TikTok showing similar experiences with Coach bags setting off alarms in the store. The culprit is often an unobtrusive security tag. The security tag, usually small, black and plastic, can be easily hidden in a pocket or crevice of a bag or wallet, making it easy to miss.

Commentators were clearly familiar with this issue. Many people were quick to come to Arely’s aid with a number of replies, all recommending the same solution. Find the security label.

“Handbags do that too. LMAO literally got stopped by mall security. It was so embarrassing, but she has a little tag in her purse!” – one said.

“There is a small pocket inside that you need to unzip and remove the security badge, which looks like a coach logo with a little metal thing on the back,” another comment noted.

“My man bought me a travel bag and this started happening. I literally found one of these (sensors) that is beeping,” someone else advised.

In response, Arely said, “I found one in my purse, but I took it out to turn on the alarm, but it went off anyway.”

“I’m throwing away the security tag”

In the next video, Arely empties her purse to identify the source of the problem. At one point he pulls out a black rectangular plastic tag and wonders if it could be the source.

“There was also one (black safety tag) and I think that might be what triggered it, but I took it out. Like I said, I checked the alarms without all this and without it, and it still went off,” she explained.

@arelyjanett We took everything out and it was still squeaking #fyp #paratiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii #coach #purse ♬ Casual – Chappell Roan

The final confirmation came from a commenter who identified himself as a Coach employee: “Coach employee here! You took the black sensor out of a small pocket. Now you will be good. If you ever buy online, always check your pockets and throw it away. Adorable Nolita bag!”

Arely and Coach did not immediately respond to the Daily Dot’s request for comment.
