The Double Exposure Switch port aims to recreate the PS5 experience

Life is Strange: Double Exposure should be one of the most anticipated titles on the horizon, if it isn’t already. Reuniting players with Max Caulfield from the first Life is Strange title, developer Deck Nine takes us on a new mystery and plenty of time-bending antics. However, if you’re wondering if a Life is Strange: Double Exposure Switch port is coming, things are looking good.

In a recent interview with Nintendo Life at PAX West, narrative director Felice Kuan reveals what the studio has in store for the upcoming Nintendo Switch version of the game. While Deck Nine has yet to confirm a release date for the portable version of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Stauder says studio Engine Software is currently working on a Switch port. “They did a good job working with us to make sure the game was as good as it could be on this platform,” Kuan says.

Recreating the visual splendor of Double Exposure on Nintendo’s seven-year-old handheld is no easy feat, and there is some question as to whether the port will land with the debut of the Nintendo Switch 2. Nevertheless, Kuan claims that despite using “advanced Unreal (Engine 5) features that would be difficult to exploit on Switch”, Engine Software sidesteps these obstacles by re-illuminating “the game with baked lighting instead of dynamic (Lumen)”.

This isn’t Engine Software’s first foray into porting what we consider some of the best Switch games to mobile devices, as the studio has previously worked on portable versions of Little Nightmare 2 and the No More Heroes series. According to Kuan, Engine Software’s work on Double Exposure meant that they “had to determine how to recreate or replace the more intense parts of the process, making sure the game was as close to high-end platforms as possible.”

We can’t wait to see how close it will be to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game, as Double Exposure’s gorgeous aesthetics and impeccable art direction deserve to be seen in their full glory. These versions of the game will be released on October 29, 2024, and we expect to hear more about the Life Is Strange: Double Exposure Switch release date shortly after launch.
