45th Annual Freaker’s Ball hosts ‘spooky’ night at Bally’s Lake Tahoe | South Lake Tahoe

Event date:

October 26, 2024 – 9:00 p.m

LAKE TAHOE, Nevada – Get ready for a legendary night at the 45th annual Freaker’s Ball at the Blu and Opal Nightclub in Bally’s Lake Tahoe on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Reno-Tahoe’s most anticipated Halloween event returns and promises to be better than whenever.

Celebrating its 45th year, Freaker’s Ball is the best way to meet the creatures of the night and enjoy the Halloween season. Named after a song written by Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show’s 1972 “Freakin’ at the Freaker’s Ball”, this event is perfect for those who want a night of amazing entertainment and spookily good fun.

The event’s history began in 1978 when Tim Haloren, Jim Rodgers and Brian Williams worked at the Waystation, which also housed Marie Callender’s, Deb Howard & Co. Realty and Pizza Hut. Tim left in January of this year to open Nephele’s, Jim left at the end of the summer to work at Harrah’s Tahoe (former CEO of KOA America), and Brian left around the same time to explore his entrepreneurial side and founded Media West Group and led the media room at the American Century Championship.

Williams’ idea was to organize a San Francisco-style Halloween party in Lake Tahoe called Freaker’s Ball, modeled after San Francisco holiday celebrations and using the song’s name. On October 31, 1978, Williams and his friends hosted the first of many Freaker’s Balls at the Old Tahoe Chinese Palace, which was located next to Raley’s Stateline. After the Palace closed, he moved to the old Vagabond Motel (which is now a Whole Foods), moved to the Edgewood Tahoe for two years as it started gaining popularity, and then landed at the Turtles nightclub in Round Hill. He stayed with the Turtles when they moved into the former Embassy Suites and then landed at Caesars Tahoe, his home since then (Caesars became MontBleu and now Bally’s). If you’ve never been there, you’ll want to put this Halloween party on your bucket list.
