Celine Spring 2025 is an ode to the legendary French It Girls

Hedi Slimane took part in the Paris Fashion Week chat with a short film that debuted on Celine platforms on Sunday morning. It’s been more than four years since Celine’s creative director last showed the finished collection in person, opting instead for the collection’s video format, which other brands have largely abandoned in the wake of the pandemic. Directed by Slimane himself, these short films took us on a grand tour of national monuments, from Les Invalides and the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris to the beach in St. Tropez and a 17th-century castle in the French countryside. Collection videos typically release weeks to months after fashion month officially ends, but for summer 2025, it released them in the midst of the hustle and bustle.

Entitled “Un Été Français” (French summer)continues the cool vibe of Slimane’s 1960s fall collection with models in A-line mini skirts and anglaise-embroidered babydoll dresses floating around a grand holiday home in Compiègne to the atmospheric soundtrack of Nico and The Velvet Underground’s hit “Femme Fatale” from 1967. Let others cottages dress naked. At most, these girls show a little leg. They prefer elegant summer coats in suede or glazed lambskin and twins embroidered with crystals and silver sequins. They love it short, but no This a short skirt for the day and an architectural black silk gown for the night. Their high heels are very fashionable slippers of a reasonable height.

Slimane has always been something of a youth culture charmer, and here he brilliantly tapped into Gen Z’s obsession with nostalgia. He channeled the spirit of French singers Françoise Hardy, Jane Birkin and Juliette Gréco with thick bangs peeking out from black silk CC monogram headbands and expressive cat eyes (courtesy of Les Yeux Celine, an eyeliner from the new Celine Beauty line). Slimane’s Celine has always had a preppy feel to it, bringing the house back to its origins as a purveyor bon chic bon genre loafers. Do you remember how in his second collection for fall 2019 he managed to create knee-length pleated culottes Thing? You can bet that summer cashmere pleated boarding school skirts will be a hit in this collection. Watch the full video below.
