Why Liz Hurley Will Always Be a Wonderwall Patsy Kensit: After meeting on the set of a racy ’90s movie, the couples are “like sisters” and their friendship has lasted much longer than 4 weddings and a funeral!

In the arms of Britpop’s biggest star and the king of rom-coms, they were arguably the two hottest “it” couples of the 1990s.

But while Patsy Kensit and Liam Gallagher’s marriage and Elizabeth Hurley’s tumultuous 13-year relationship with Hugh Grant are as much relics of the era as hats and flip phones, the friendship between the two women is still going strong.

The pair first met on the set of the forgotten ’90s thriller Kill Cruise, and over the weekend, Liz, 59, shared a touching photo of the pair from the film to celebrate 35 years of their friendship.

A few days earlier, she had posted a photo of them having lunch as a fundraiser for a breast cancer charity, prompting Patsy to respond: “Fifi, I love you so much and I love being Auntie Ratticus to beautiful Damian.”

Their friendship has endured many difficult times: Liz finally split from Hugh in 2000, and Patsy and Liam acrimoniously divorced the same year.

However, given the ’90s nostalgia that has gripped the UK since Oasis reunited, it’s perhaps no surprise that Elizabeth also looks back on her days as a foursome with great fondness, describing how the notoriously surly Mancunian was washing the dishes when he arrived to stay at his mother’s house with Patsy.

Elizabeth Hurley celebrated her and Pasty Kensit’s 35-year friendship with a steamy photo of the couple shared on Instagram on Sunday (left in 1989 and right in 2024).

Elizabeth, 59, was dating actor Hugh Grant around the same time Patsy, 56, was in a relationship with Oasis singer Liam Gallagher

She revealed on Ken Bruce’s Golden Years show on Greatest Hits Radio how much time she spent with the band in the early 1990s, when Patsy was married to Liam.

“So we saw a lot of them and it was amazing because, you know, Patty is a very old friend of mine and she’s like a sister to me,” she explained.

“When I was going to meet Liam for the first time, I didn’t really know what to expect. I thought he was so crazy, wild… you know, Manchester, he was absolutely adorable.

“They would come over to my (then) little house in the country that my mum and dad owned and Liam would help with the dishes and he was just lovely.”

She added: “They (Liam and Patsy) were lovely, they made me love Oasis even more and I remember going backstage at some of their shows.

“I’ll think again that they might be wild and what’s going on and they’ll be sitting there doing a crossword!” And, you know, in cardigans and stuff, and they were just heaven.

They have remained friends since they first met in 1898 – and their bond has endured through their many high-profile relationships with famous men

Similarly, Patsy has equally fond memories of Liz and Hugh as a couple.

“Hugh is the funniest man – he and Elizabeth have the best sense of humor. They were great together,” she told The Times.

When Elizabeth and Patsy met on the set of Kill Cruise, they were both aspiring actresses hoping to make it big.

This was Elizabeth’s first starring role, but the film was not a great success, with Patsy later describing it as a “shocking German film” that was shot in Malta.

The pair adopted thick Leeds accents to pay two strippers who persuade German captain Jurgen Prochnow to sail across the Atlantic, from Gibraltar to Barbados.

Things got worse when Patsy’s character realized that Jurgen liked Elizabeth and not her.

The Whill Kill cruise sank without a trace thanks to poor reviews, which strengthened the bond between the two women.

When Liam and Patsy’s son Lennon was born in 1999, Elizabeth was chosen to be godmother.

However, after Liam and Pasta divorced in 2000, it seemed that Liz and Patsy had drifted somewhat apart.

When asked by The Independent in 2005 if she was still friends with Elizabeth Hurley, Patsy replied: “Actually, my best friend is a lady called Ang, who is a normal mum.

“Elizabeth is my girlfriend, but we don’t see each other very often because we are in different places at the moment.

“My life is not very showbiz anymore.”

Then, over the next few years, they found their way back to each other.

Elizabeth was Patsy’s maid of honor at her fourth wedding in 2008 to DJ Jeremy Healy. They broke up just a year after their wedding, and Liz was her shoulder to cry on.

Fast forward to 2024, and on Sunday they celebrated 35 years of friendship with a sizzling memory. Elizabeth shared this photo along with a photo of the pair as they reunited at Estee Lauder’s Future Dreams Ladies’ Luncheon at the Savoy Hotel last week

The two couples became famous for their double date at the Mickey Blue Eyes premiere party in 1999, where they all posed at a table

Earlier this year, Patsy rekindled her romance with property tycoon Patrice Cassidy, to whom she was engaged but split in May before he could become husband number five.

Before marrying LIam and then Dan, she first walked down the aisle in 1988 with Dan Donovan of the 1980s pop group Big Audio Dynamite. The couple divorced in 1991.

Patsy then married Simple Minds frontman Jim Kerr in 1992. The couple welcomed their son James in 1993, but divorced after three years.

Meanwhile, Liz’s love life has also been a rollercoaster.

After breaking up with Hugh in 2000, she started dating film producer Steve Bing, who initially tried to deny that he was the father of her son Damian.

She was married to multi-millionaire textile heir Arun Nayar from 2007 to 2011 and was engaged to the late cricketer Shane Warne before ending their relationship in 2013.

Businessman Steve died by suicide at the age of 55 in June 2020, and cricketer Shane died at the age of 52 from a heart attack in March 2022.

They looked sensational despite the passage of three decades, with Elizabeth in a pink off-the-shoulder Rebecca Vallance midi dress and Patsy opting for a chic and figure-hugging black look.

Elizabeth later starred in big-screen films, including 1997’s Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and 2000’s Bedazzled.

On television, she also appeared on The Royals and Gossip Girl, and launched her own beachwear collection.

Meanwhile, Patsy had an equally impressive career and starred alongside Mel Gibson in 1989’s Lethal Weapon 2, as well as EastEnders, Emmerdale and Holby City.

She finished her stunning look with pink strappy shoes and a small, sparkly pink handbag decorated with a pink bow.

While his mother opted for color, Damian went for sophistication in an all-black ensemble.

Damian and his mother often attend events together and were last seen earlier this month refreshed to celebrate Hugh Grant’s 64th birthday.
