Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has just seen its first major price cut

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth may have been one of the biggest releases of the year so far, but its $69.99 price tag doesn’t show much sign of wobbling since its February release date. That all changed this week, with a $20 discount at Amazon that caused the latest entry in the reboot trilogy to once again hit its lowest price ever.

You will find Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth available now only $49.99For the first time in history, the price of a PS5 game dropped below $50. For reference, I’ve only seen the MSRP drop once in the past, and that was a short cut a few months ago that only reached $55. Plus, it’s a full-price game, no matter where you shop.

What’s particularly interesting about this latest deal is that it appears to be only available on Amazon itself. Best Buy and Walmart are discontinuing these PS5 deals, and both are still offering Rebirth at the standard MSRP of $69. If you want to travel to the Planet, this is currently the cheapest way.

Is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth worth buying?

If you liked Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth should be at the top of your shopping list now. Not only will you get another piece to the story puzzle, but moving from Midgar to Planet will open up your exploration zones to a more open world. If you enjoyed the more linear experience of Remake but ultimately enjoyed the freedom that the larger space affords, this will be a fantastic experience.

Yes, there is still some confusion in the story. While Square Enix did a fantastic job of keeping everything fresh in Remake’s fate-changing finale, it’s still part of the original game that has evolved into an entire adventure of its own. This means things can get a bit complicated at times, though fans of the series will forgive all of this for its focus on party mechanics and the fantastic development of memorable locations.

If you’re new to the series, I recommend playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake first and then jumping into Rebirth. There is a catch-up section at the beginning of the second title so that you can still follow the rhythm of the main story.
