Immigration: Republican Mark Green blames Kamala Harris as illegal alien accused of murdering girl

The chairman of the Homeland Security Committee said Vice President Kamala Harris’s immigration policies led to the murder of a young student.

Gerber Luis Sanchez-Centeno, 23, is accused of murdering his friend, 18-year-old Dania Cruz-Mejia, on September 18. ICE officers placed a GPS tag on the suspect and released him into the community, but by August 8, authorities had stopped their surveillance after he escaped.

Congressman Mark Green has now accused the Biden-Harris administration of responsibility for the assassination.

“The tragic, completely preventable murder of Denmark Cruz-Mejia by an illegal alien was a direct result of the Biden-Harris Administration’s mass catch-and-release policy.

“President Biden and his ‘border czar,’ Vice President Harris, have not only released millions of illegal aliens into the interior of the country, but also limited ICE’s ability to enforce long-standing immigration laws, including those governing the detention and removal of illegal aliens.

“Unfortunately, many innocent people like Ms. Cruz-Mejia died as a result. In Biden and Harris’ America, we are all less safe. This fact will not change until we enforce our laws and secure our borders,” he said Newsweek.

Newsweek has reached out to the Harris campaign and the White House for comment.

Cruz-Mejia’s sister, Maria, talked about it earlier Newsweek about his sadness after the death of his siblings.

“She was a happy girl. She always positively approached all challenges and problems she encountered.

“When they told me, it was the saddest day. Dania was one of the people I loved most in my life,” she said.

The Montgomery County Police Department said the victim’s family found her body at her home in Montgomery Village.

According to a GoFundMe set up to support the victim’s family, Sanchez-Centeno joined Cruz-Mejia in Maryland just ten days before her death.

– said Baltimore ERO spokesman James Covington Newsweek: “Gerber Luis Sanchez-Centeno is a 23-year-old Salvadoran citizen residing illegally.

“U.S. Border Patrol detained Sanchez on June 2 after he unlawfully entered the United States near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Later that day, ERO El Paso placed Sanchez in the Alternatives to Detention program with a GPS monitor.

“ERO El Paso dismissed Sanchez from ATD on August 8 after he defected from the program.

“The Montgomery County Police Department arrested Sanchez on September 20 and charged him with the murder of his girlfriend. Sanchez remains in the custody of authorities in Montgomery County, Maryland.

“ERO Baltimore filed an Immigration Detention Motion against Sanchez on September 23, 2024 at the Montgomery County Detention Center.”

ICE’s Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program ensures that non-citizens comply with the terms of their release while remaining in their communities.

The ruling came after Harris visited the southern border for the first time as a Democratic candidate in an attempt to take a tougher stance on illegal migration and address one of her biggest policy weaknesses.

A recent poll by Redfield and Wilton Strategies found that 47 percent of respondents trust Trump on immigration compared to 36 percent who trust Harris. But that gap appears to have begun to close in recent weeks as the number of border crossings declines in the wake of President Joe Biden’s sweeping executive order limiting asylum applications.

Harris’ more conservative approach to securing the border reflects Democrats’ belief that they can continue to close the gap.
