Angelina Jolie often uses proven wardrobe items: usually a trench coat combined with a black maxi dress or luxurious gray knitwear. When it comes to evening wear, she doesn’t stray too far from this neutral color palette, often opting for an LBD or flowing white gown.

It was the latter option that Jolie chose for the New York premiere Mariadirected by Pablo Larraín, a biographical film about the Greek opera singer Maria Callas. The actor wore a 1950s white draped dress by French designer Madame Grès, purchased from Mon Vintage, Amal Clooney’s favorite vintage retailer. “Angelina is truly Mon Vintage’s best muse,” said founder Marie Blanchet Fashion. “She’s a real Hollywood star in the 1940s and 1950s – she chose the dress herself from our Paris showroom, which made it look very personal.”

This is not the first time that Jolie, who launched her own fashion brand last year, has delved into the archives. For a state dinner at the White House in 2023, she chose another airy white dress, this time from Chanel, which she paired with a vintage jacket, also from the French fashion house.

Meanwhile, Jolie’s catalog turns out to be a stylistic inspiration for others. For this year Vanity fair At the Oscars party, Sydney Sweeney wore the same tight white dress by Marc Bouwer that Angelina Jolie wore to the Oscars in 2004.

This just goes to show that the perfect white dress will always be a timeless classic – and not just for brides.
