Peaky Blinders film FIRST LOOK: Cillian Murphy puts on his iconic Tommy Selby costume as filming of the highly anticipated film officially begins at a secret location in Liverpool

Filming officially began on Monday for Peaky Blinders’ The Immortal Man at a secret location in Liverpool.

Leading actor Cillian Murphy, 48, donned his iconic Tommy Selby costume to mark the occasion in a photo shared on the official Netflix X account.

The Oscar winner played the gangster in the award-winning BBC series from 2013 to 2022, and now he returns to the big screen with new cast members Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth.

Vehicles were seen arriving at an unknown location and there was heavy security on the set to ensure that only government personnel were allowed on the set.

As well as a photo of his character, Cillian posed with series creator Steven Knight as they relaxed on set.

Cillian Murphy and Steven Knight are reuniting on set after production officially begins on the upcoming Netflix film.

Little is known about the plot, but Knight returns as a writer alongside Tom Harper, who directed episodes of the first series of the series.

Last month it was announced that Salburn star Barry had joined the cast but details about his character have not been revealed yet.

Barry has had an impressive career over the last few years, starring in Saltburn, Top Boy and Banshees of Inisherin.

In June 2024, Netflix announced that the feature film had been greenlit and would go into production later this year.

In June, it was confirmed that the original Peaky Blinders writing and directing team would return with Cillian in a film adaptation of the popular British series for Netflix.

Netflix confirmed the news on X with a photo of the script, and the Oscar-winning actor told Deadline, “Looks like Tommy Shelby isn’t done with me yet…

In addition to his character photo, Cillian posed with series creator Tenen Knight as they relaxed on set.

“It’s very satisfying to be working with Steven Knight and Tom Harper again on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is something for the fans.

Director Tom said: “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the show would be, but we knew there was something about the alchemy of the cast and the script that was explosive.

‘Peaky’ has always been a story about family, so it’s incredibly exciting to reunite with Steve and Cillian to bring the film to audiences around the world on Netflix.

Peaky Blinders premiered in 2013 and attracted huge audiences both in the UK and abroad, attracting roles from silver screen stars such as Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy.

The show is loosely based on a real Birmingham gang of the same name, active from the 1880s to 1920s, who carried out the same illegal activities as their fictional counterparts.

Peaky Blinders aired six series over nine years and ended with Tommy, who was tricked into believing he had an incurable disease, surviving an assassination attempt orchestrated by his own nephew before killing him and moving out to start a new life.

However, the news raises concerns for the welfare of Paul Anderson, who plays Cillian’s older brother Arthur Shelby in the series, after he pleaded guilty to possessing crack cocaine earlier this year.

It was also found that the 45-year-old had amphetamine, diazepam and pregabalin with him.

His continued erratic behavior in recent months has raised concerns for his welfare.

The 45-year-old, who plays Cillian’s older brother Arthur Shelby (pictured) on the series, has sparked fears for his welfare with his ongoing, erratic behavior in recent months

One local shopkeeper, who counts Paul as a friend, told MailOnline: “It’s heartbreaking. He’s a mess. But his erratic behavior causes real problems. He often seems dazed and out of it.

“He argued with local residents. He walks around making a lot of noise. We are all full of fear. He had an argument in Tesco a few weeks ago.

“He lives as if he were on another planet. He appeared topless in public. He has difficulty walking. This is a great concern. He seems to have lost control. It’s tragic.

However, last month the actor seemed to explain his act – quite literally – by going to London to Tesco and buying various cleaning products, including shampoo, Dove deodorant, a tea cloth and Vanish stain remover.
