Throughout its history, from the boardroom and polling place to the school and American Legion post, 47 Mulberry St. played a role in Pawtucket’s history. Now the two-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom home, originally known as the Fifth Ward Wardroom, is on the market for $650,000.

Built in 1886, the 2,135-square-foot Queen Anne style home was converted into a private residence after many years as a municipal building. It now combines architectural and historical significance while accommodating modern lifestyles.

A few front steps beneath an arched hallway lead to the front hall, an impressive space of exposed brick painted a deep green. Arched doors reveal the main living space, which can be arranged in a variety of configurations. High ceilings and knotty pine floors create a blank canvas in the space, which is filled with natural light thanks to wide semicircular windows. Under these windows you will also find a dining room that can easily accommodate a long table.

“You could comfortably invite about 70 people,” said Steven Mackinney of Mackinney Gold Group at Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty, which owns the listing.

The kitchen has a central courtyard, stainless steel appliances and a long island with bar seating. Impeccable pine cabinets match the floor.

The laundry room is located behind the kitchen and offers additional storage space. Another door leads to the master bedroom, which has exposed brickwork and large windows. It has a spacious cedar dressing room and a bathroom that has been finished to perfection. The open shower is made of reclaimed Mexican tiles that were originally intended to serve as the base of the pool. There is also a bathtub.

“They kept the original DNA and the integrity of the building, but it was like the entire space had been reinvented,” Mackinney said.

The half bathroom is located next to a wooden staircase leading to the loft bedroom, which has a long built-in L-shaped bookcase and desk, and views of the room below. Mackinney said space can be transformed into a variety of things. “It could be an office or it could be a studio.”

The 0.09-acre home has a driveway but no garage. The property is located just off Interstate 95.
