The Last Dinner Party cancels further performances due to illness

The Last Dinner Party announced the cancellation of many upcoming shows due to the band’s illness.

The art-rock band began their headline tour of the UK and Ireland in September. So far they have played gigs in Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow and more. They were scheduled to perform on stages in Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton this week, but the band decided to cancel those shows.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the difficult decision to cancel our upcoming headline tour dates in Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton,” The Last Dinner Party wrote on social media. The team cited an unforeseen illness within the team and added: “following the doctor’s advice, we must prioritize our health at this time.”

The Mercury Prize nominees said they were “devastated” to miss the shows, as well as previously canceled shows in Lincoln and Cardiff. “You all should know that you made this the greatest year of our lives,” they wrote, “and we can’t thank you enough for your love and support. Really.”

The Last Dinner Party’s response to Lincoln’s security problems

The concert cancellations follow complaints about safety procedures during The Last Dinner Party’s performance at The Engine Shed in Lincoln on September 28. The men, who were alone at the concert, claimed they were taken to a private room for questioning and search before being allowed to enter the concert, prompting both the band and the venue to post statements on social media.

The Last Dinner Party wrote that the safety rules were “created and enforced by the property in its sole discretion and have not been consulted with us.”

“Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in our performances,” they added. “We are horrified and disappointed that anyone would feel otherwise. We welcome The Engine Shed’s investigation and further staff training to ensure this does not happen again.”

Engine Shed also posted a statement on social media regarding the incident. The venue suggested that due to “incidents at previous The Last Dinner Party concerts” they had changed their security policies. They acknowledged that this had led to unacceptable treatment of some participants and stated that an independent investigation had been launched.

The Lincoln show was canceled before The Last Dinner Party took the stage, with the band citing sudden illness. Another concert in Cardiff was also cancelled.

Currently, the band’s main tour will continue on October 7 in Dublin.
