The West Plains School District announces the final name of its new mascot

West Plains, MO. – The West Plains School District has officially announced the name of its new mascot. After extensive voting and community input, the name was finally chosen. During the homecoming game on Friday, September 27, 2024, the mascot was introduced as “Bolt.”

Earlier this month, on September 5, 2024, the West Plains Zizzer Quarterback Club donated a new Zizzer mascot uniform to the school. The school district then asked the community to suggest names for the new mascot using a form provided on their Facebook page. By September 20, 2024, the district has narrowed down suggestions to the top five names and begun public voting.

The finalists were Lightning, Ziz, Bolt, Sparky and Zippy. Thanks to the community’s support and input, the new mascot now proudly bears the name “Bolt.”
