Buster Posey comments on Blake Snell’s upcoming free agency that will please Giants fans

New San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey gives his opinion on pitcher Blake Snell’s future free agency. According to USA Today Sports, Posey says Snell’s free agency is a priority that should be watched closely.

Posey took over the team after a disappointing season in which the Giants finished 80-82. Since 2015, San Francisco has won just one league title. The former All-Star catcher, who played for Bay for years, now helps with overall management. Posey was part of three World Series championships in San Francisco.

The Giants would like to keep Snell. The veteran pitcher spent 2024 in San Francisco, but didn’t have a standout season there. Snell finished the campaign with a 3.12 ERA in 20 appearances. He earned five wins, which was Snell’s lowest win total since the 2020 season.

San Francisco ended in defeat in manager Bob Melvin’s first season. For Melvin to be successful, he will need coachable talent. The Giants have a tougher time considering they share the NL West division with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers agreed to spend more than $1 billion this offseason on just two players. These two are Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Posey has the advantage of being close to the team for so long. He spent his entire career playing in San Francisco and went to the All-Star Game seven times. He finished this season as the 2012 National League MVP. The former catcher has the support of former manager Bruce Bochy, as well as current pitcher Logan Webb.

Posey joined the club’s ownership group in 2022 after retiring from baseball a year earlier. He takes over as president of baseball operations from the fired Farhan Zaidi.

“Looking ahead, I am pleased to share that Buster Posey will now take on an increased role as the new president of baseball operations,” Giants president Greg Johnson said in a statement, according to the Associated Press. “We are looking for someone who can define, direct and direct the baseball philosophy of this franchise and we believe Buster is the perfect fit. Buster has the attitude, intelligence and drive to get the job done, and we are confident that he and Bob Melvin will work together to bring winning baseball back to San Francisco.”

The Giants last played in the offseason in 2021. Giants fans are hoping for good news for this team in the near future.
