Jonesboro announces downtown traffic plan

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The city of Jonesboro’s slogan is “Always Moving,” and that’s exactly what they plan to do with downtown traffic as they figure out what to do next with the bulging building.

Lynette Hirsch with the city’s communications department told K8 News Oct. 1 that the structural engineer’s report would be released “tomorrow or later.”

City officials closed Main Street from Washington Avenue to Monroe Avenue on Sept. 25 after receiving information that the former Citizens Bank building posed a safety hazard.

To increase access to Main Street restaurants and businesses, the city announced Tuesday that drivers can now turn left from Union Street onto Monroe Avenue and then make another left onto Main Street.

Monroe Avenue will be open to eastbound traffic only.

Large trucks will have to exit onto Bridge Street.
