SEG Solar (SEG), a Texas-based module manufacturer, has begun deploying an n-cell production line at Indonesia’s Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang industrial park, 390 km east of Jakarta.

US-based solar module manufacturer SEG Solar (SEG) has started construction work on an integrated solar industrial park in Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang (KITB) in Indonesia, 390 km east of Jakarta.

SEG Indonesia’s solar energy industrial park project, located in Grand Batang City, Central Java Province, will require an investment of more than USD 500 million and will cover an area of over 40 hectares.

The first phase of the project assumes the construction of ten lines for the production of No-type cells with an annual capacity of 5 GW, and completion is expected in the second quarter of 2025.

Texas-based SEG aims to collaborate with other suppliers of photovoltaic components, including wafers, ingots, junction boxes, frames and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) films, to establish manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, paving the way for comprehensive business expansion in the entire solar energy sector. value chain.

SEG Solar co-founder and general counsel Michael Eden said the company’s manufacturing facility is key to its global strategy and plans to build a highly efficient and competitive vertically integrated solar industrial park by optimizing the upstream and downstream layout of the n-type industrial chain.

“The solar cells and solar panels produced in this industrial park will support the Indonesian government in its carbon reduction plan and supply SEG Solar’s U.S. module plant in Houston, ensuring traceability and supply chain reliability,” KITB president and director Ngurah Wirawan said. “This project will be a key enabler in accelerating the transformation of the green industry in Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region.”

Indonesian Ministry of Investment Deputy Minister for Investment Promotion Nurul Ichwan said that the official start of construction of the Indonesian SEG plant marks a solid step for Indonesia in promoting renewable energy and green industry development through foreign investment.

“SEG’s investment in Indonesia will stimulate local economic development and strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global supply chain of the renewable energy industry. The industrial park is expected to create over 3,000 jobs, providing employment opportunities and economic vitality to the local community,” he said.

Grand Batang City is the largest state-owned industrial area supported by the Indonesian government and is a nationwide strategic project.
