Former Penn State students convicted in Piazza 2017 deaths

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle A. Henry announced that two former University of Pennsylvania students were sentenced for their roles in a 2017 gambling incident.

According to Henry, Brendan Young, 28, and Daniel Casey, 27, pleaded guilty earlier in July to 14 counts of hazing and one count of reckless endangerment in the Timothy Piazza case.

The release said Young and Casey were leaders of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at the time they were involved in a 2017 gambling incident and assisted in the incident that left sophomore Piazza unresponsive the following morning after consuming large amount of alcohol, Henry said.

The man lost PLN 7.4 thousand. dollars as a result of bail bond fraud

Officials say Piazza died a few days later from multiple falls he suffered while intoxicated.

“Nothing can repair the harm Tim caused seven years ago, nothing can bring Tim back to his family and friends. With today’s sentencing, the criminal trial has come to an end,” said Attorney General Henry.

Since then, the Piazza family has passed Pennsylvania’s Timothy Piazza Anti-Hazing Law, which upgrades the offense to a felony in the event of serious injury or death, officials note.

Casey and Young were sentenced to two to four months in prison (with the possibility of work release), followed by three years probation plus community service, the release stated.
