Folktellers Studios in Royal Oak is releasing “Hero’s Journey The Series,” a music-infused animated concert series that melds the magic of live performance with an animated film.

The one-of-a-kind event features Slight Return, an award-winning rock band, bringing history to life on the big screen in a live concert experience.

Launching on Nov. 6, at Emagine Theater EMX in Royal Oak, “Hero’s Journey The Series” takes audiences on a ride through time, sound, and history.

At the center of the musical saga is Theophilus O’Dell George, affectionately known as “Gorgeous George.” His story begins on the dirt roads of Arkansas and ascends through the stages of The Chitlin’ Circuit, a historic network of juke joints and theaters where African American performers shaped the future of music.

The mystical journey is narrated by a magical roaming orb that shadows George’s every step, revealing his rise as one of the most pivotal master of ceremonies on the circuit. Through Gorgeous George’s eyes, audiences will witness animated entertainment legends who carved their legacy on the iconic tour.

The series celebrates the resilience and loyalty that powered the stars of the circuit as well as inspiring “a revolution in entertainment.”

Featuring legendary icons such as Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Isley Brothers, Buddy Miles, Ike and Tina Turner, Little Richard, and more, the series captures the magic of the Chitlin’ Circuit in a way that’s never been seen or heard before.

Tickets are now available here.

Folktellers Studios combines the talents of industry veterans in film, music, TV, gaming, and literature to create unforgettable, immersive experiences.
