Pokemon-like shooter Palworld is coming to mobile devices despite a lawsuit

Palworld, the game that many people called “Pokemon with guns,” is coming to mobile devices. Game developer Pocketpair has signed a licensing agreement with PUBG: Battlegrounds publisher Krafton to make the game available on mobile devices.

Krafton said in a press release Wednesday that it plans a faithful reinterpretation of Palworld to bring the original game to mobile platforms.

This means that the mobile version of Palworld likely won’t be a one-to-one port of the game to consoles and PC, so mobile gamers will have to wait a while for the game. Krafton did not provide a time frame for the mobile version of Palworld.

This news came a few days after Palworld launched on the PlayStation Store in most countries except Japan. Prior to its release on PlayStation, Palworld was available on Xbox and Steam.

This announcement also comes in the wake of a lawsuit filed by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. The gaming giant wrote online that Palworld was infringing multiple patents, to which Pocketpair responded that it did not know what patents it was accused of infringing.

Palworld launched in Early Access in January, and The Pokemon Company said at the time that it would “take appropriate measures to address any activity that infringes intellectual property rights relating to Pokémon.” Since then, some people on the internet have made videos comparing the creature designs from each game to highlight their similarities. There have been other videos comparing creature designs between Pokemon and the Dragon Quest game, which suggests that the Pokemon games may not be completely original in their designs either.

It is unclear how the lawsuit will affect the development of the mobile version of Palworld.
