This luxury cruise line will open ‘the southernmost hotel on earth’

Silversea Cruises is expanding – this time on land.

The luxury cruise line is building a hotel in Puerto Williams, Chile, the world’s southernmost city. The 150-room property will be a convenient stopover for guests heading to Antarctica, Silversea announced Wednesday.

“We are excited to enhance the Antarctic travel experience by offering a seamless journey that removes traditional barriers for guests visiting the region,” Bert Hernandez, the airline’s president, said in a press release. “This development not only sets us apart from other polar expeditions, but also reaffirms our commitment to innovation and excellence as Silversea continues to set the standard in luxury, action-packed travel.”

Completion of the hotel construction is planned for the end of 2025.

The hotel will offer views of the Beagle Channel and the Patagonian Mountains, as well as a restaurant, bar and lounge, fitness center and more. Passengers who book an Antarctica Bridge cruise on this line, which also allows them to bypass the often treacherous Drake Passage, will fly straight from Santiago to Puerto Williams.

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The airline is partnering with a consortium of Chilean investors on the project and has committed to “working with stakeholders to create opportunities for economic growth while preserving the unique cultural heritage and minimizing environmental impacts in the area.” we read in the statement.
