Joker: Folie à Deux Max – speculations regarding the release date

Joker 2 doesn’t have a maximum release date yet, so we have to guess when we’ll see it on the streamer.

The first Joker movie hit HBO on May 16, 2020, and Max on May 27, 2020. It hit theaters on October 4, 2019, so there’s a difference of 7 months.

However, it’s likely that we can expect the sequel’s hiatus to be a bit shorter as the streaming landscape is very different in the post-Covid world. The recent release of Warner Bros. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice premieres on September 6 and hits PVOD on October 8. This means Joker 2 could be available on PVOD in November.

It is more difficult to predict the transmission date. This year’s releases from Warner Bros. appeared on streaming approximately two to four months after their theatrical release: Dune 2 hit theaters on March 1 and began streaming on May 21, while Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga hit theaters on May 24 and appeared on the Max platform on August 16. Similarly, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire hit theaters on March 29 and streamed on July 4.

The deciding factor will likely be Folie à Deux’s overall sales performance. The first Joker film grossed over $1 billion at the box office, and while Joker 2 performs worse than its predecessor, if it proves to be a financial success, it’s likely that Warner Bros. will keep it in theaters longer.

With all this in mind, we can expect Joker: Folie à Deux on Max to arrive at some point between December and February 2025, with a PVOD release likely in November.
