AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7700 XT See Big Price Drops Ahead of RDNA 4 Launch

In short: Next-gen graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD are coming out in just a few months, which means we can expect some discounts on current-gen models. Radeon cards in particular are getting cheaper, which is consistent with recent claims that Team Red has delayed the release of RDNA 4 to clear excess RDNA 3 stock.

The holiday season is fast approaching and Amazon Prime Days start next week, but AMD fans can already take advantage of discounts on the company’s latest cards.

The Radeon 7900 Nine months later we took another look when the price dropped to around $750. This made it a much better proposition with a much improved frame cost metric, especially at 1440p.

Now the AMD Radeon RX 7900XT Ultra Triple Fan XFX Speedster MERC310 with 20GB GDDR6 memory is down 18% to just $659 on Amazon. In our tests, the card managed an average of 82 FPS over 15 games at 4K resolution (139 at 1440p), so this isn’t a bummer, although it’s certainly power-hungry.

The discount comes a day after claims that AMD may have slightly delayed the launch of RDNA 4 due to a “massive” oversupply issue with Navi 31-based cards, including the RX 7900 XT. It appears that the company is trying to clear out as much inventory as possible before selling the more powerful and cheaper Radeon RX 8000 successors.

Another RDNA 3 card that has had its price reduced is the RX 7700 XT. It was released last September with an MSRP of $450, which again we felt was too high. We also said in the review that it would be worth buying if it dropped to $400.

Amazon has now reduced the price of the RX 7700 XT to $349, which is $100 less than its MSRP upon launch. What’s even better is that the card is part of a game bundle promotion that includes the excellent Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and Unknown 9: Awakening, which essentially saves you even more money.

The only caveat is that this model is a PowerColor Fighter, so it’s not from one of AIB’s more popular partners, but about 80% of all Amazon reviews are four or five stars.

Our average FPS over 15 games for the RX 7700 XT was 91 at 1440p and 52 at 4K, which was well ahead of Nvidia’s RTX 4060 Ti 16G.

As the year progresses, expect further price drops for current-generation cards, especially since Nvidia and AMD may announce successors at CES in January.
