Raaj Shaandilyaa REACTS to Rajkummar Rao and Triptia Dimri’s fame: Timing ka khel hai saara – Exclusive!

Raaj Shaandilyaa, who rose to fame with the hit comedy Dream girl (2019) starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrratt Bharuccha, is currently gearing up for the release of his much-awaited film ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh WalaThe film stars Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles.
In an exclusive interview with ETimesShaandilyaa discussed the film and the casting choices, and also shared some insight on what viewers can expect from the upcoming project.
How did you come up with ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’?
Raaj Shaandilyaa said that the idea for the video Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala came to him around 2016-2017. After making Dream Girl, he met with Rajkummar Rao to discuss the project, but due to scheduling conflicts, they decided to hold off on shooting the film until they could do it justice. Meanwhile, Shaandilyaa was working on ‘Dream Girl 2’. He explained that he set the story of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video in the 1990s because it was in line with the family values ​​of the time and leaked MMS scandals were a big issue back then. Once he and his co-writer were confident that the story could entertain audiences for two and a half hours, they pitched it to Rajkummar Rao, who was interested in the film from the beginning.
Both the lead actors Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri are in excellent form.

How important is a trailer?
When you are looking for a future bride or groom, you first look at her photo, before buying a flat you see a trial apartment, similarly the first impression must be good, especially in comedies. So nostalgia, humor and surprises were important elements for this trailer.
Was Triptii Dimri cast when she became a sensation after Animal?
NO. She was cast before Animal. I usually write scripts with actors in mind. However, I wasn’t sure who to cast in this role. Since Rajkummar was already on board, I looked at the girls who had worked with him recently. So I thought of pairing someone who hasn’t seen Rajkummar before. Then we thought about Triptia. Shortly after we met, she also signed up for a film.
How you gave back Mallika Sherawat?
I wrote this character just for her. I used it Daler Mehndi in the song. I told Mallika that I wrote a character for her. She loved hearing that. She is paired with Vijay Raaz and they complement each other well.
What about Tiku Talsania?
After watching Tiku Ji’s interview where he mentioned that he wouldn’t get a job, I felt bad that such a talented actor wasn’t cast. So I wrote the character of Dada especially for him. It wasn’t originally part of the script, but I added it after watching this interview. He gave a fantastic performance in the film.
’90s supporting actors don’t get jobs.
Having lived in the 1990s, I know this era and the comedy legends associated with it very well. I gathered some of these actors for this film. I have also cast Rakesh Bedi and Archana Puran Singh, who fit their roles perfectly.
