Matthew Broderick reveals why he never appeared on ‘Sex and the City’ alongside wife Sarah Jessica Parker

“Whenever there was a role that I could do, I couldn’t do it, that’s really all that happened,” Broderick explained

Matthew Broderick sheds light on why he never joined wife Sarah Jessica Parker Sex and the City.

In a recent episode This is my lifewith James Corden in “Sirius XM” Broderick (62) talked about his acting career and marriage to the cult Sex and the Cityactress. Wondering why he never appeared on the famous series, Broderick said he was asked to do so, but it never worked out.

“Whenever there was a part I could do, I couldn’t do it, that’s really all that happened,” he explained. “But sometimes the question would come up: ‘Do you want to spend two days as a premature ejaculator?’ And I said, “You know, I don’t know, it’s just kind of embarrassing.”

When Corden asked if Parker, 59, would come home and present Ferris Bueller’s Day Offstar in various roles, Broderick laughed.

“No, they were very professional,” he said. “I wish I had done it or been a part of it.”

Broderick said he would consider bringing in Parker, who played the lead role of Carrie Bradshaw SATC from 1998 to 2004, and later in sequels and revival series, keep the show to yourself.

“It was her thing and it would have stunted me or something, I don’t know,” he said. “It just never worked out. I love this show and would love to be on it, but things have never worked out well.

Parker and Broderick were met by the brothers Pippin and Toby, who founded the Naked Angels Theater Company in New York in 1991, when Broderick directed a play there. Six years later, in 1997, the couple got married.

In an interview given in 1996 New York Times, Parker remembered Broderick asking her out via voicemail. “He left a very sweet, discreet message on the machine,” she said. “You know, ‘Hi, this is Matthew Broderick.’ You had to use your name.

Also in 1996, they appeared together in a Broadway show: How to succeed in business without real effort. Before the premiere, Parker gushed about her then-boyfriend.

“He’s probably the funniest guy I’ve ever met in my life,” she said. “He’s so smart, so handsome, I think he’s the most handsome man I’ve ever seen in my life. And he inspires me. I’m mad at him, totally.”

When asked about the secret to their lasting relationship in November 2020, Broderick replied, “I don’t know the secret at all, but you know, I’m very grateful and I love her. It’s amazing. I mean, I can’t believe it’s been so long. I don’t have that impression.

Parker and Broderick also have three children – son James, born in 2002, and twin daughters Marion and Tabitha, born in 2009.

In 2011, Parker opened up about the challenges she faced in her marriage after two decades together.

“We have been together for 20 years and there are good days, decent days and bad days. That’s what marriage is all about,” she said. “It’s a relationship. It’s even friendship. Extramarital relationships run the same course.”

Parker added: “If you’re in it for the long haul and you want meaningful relationships, you’re going to have to go through a lot of different periods.”
