Melania Trump says she supports abortion rights

Melania Trump has stated that she supports abortion rights ahead of the release of her upcoming memoir.

The former first lady posted video on her account, X on Thursday defended women’s “individual freedoms” to do whatever they want with their bodies.

“Individual freedom is the basic principle that I defend,” she said in the recording. “Without a doubt, there is no room for compromise when it comes to the fundamental right that every woman has from birth: individual freedom. What does “my body, my choice” really mean?

According to the Associated Press, the video appears to corroborate portions of Trump’s memoir titled ” reported on Wednesday via The Guardian.

In his memoirs, scheduled for release on October 8, Trump claims that the decision to terminate a pregnancy should be made by the woman and her doctor, noted AP, citing published fragments of the book.

Her position on abortion differs from that of her husband Donald Trump and much of the Republican Party on the issue.

The former president took credit for appointing three Supreme Court justices who helped overturn Roe v. Wade and boasted about taking abortion back to the states.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump said he would veto federal abortion, but the AP reported that abortion rights advocates were skeptical, suggesting he cannot be trusted not to restrict reproductive rights.

Although most Americans support abortion rights, the former president has wavered in his message on abortion since Roe v. Wade was overturned.

According to the AP, Melania Trump also defends abortion later in pregnancy, claiming that “the majority of abortions performed later in pregnancy were the result of serious fetal abnormalities that would likely result in death or stillbirth. Perhaps even the death of the mother.”
