Jack Smith’s evidence ‘extremely important’ ahead of election: Mary Trump

Pages of classified evidence against Donald Trump in his federal election overturn case are “extremely important” to voters ahead of the November election, according to former president’s niece Mary Trump.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Wednesday released a 165-page document filed by special counsel Jack Smith that outlined Justice Department allegations that Trump tried to stay in the White House even after he knew he lost to President Joe Biden in 2020.

Prosecutors in the document focus on Trump’s actions as a private citizen and candidate, rather than president, in response to the Supreme Court’s July ruling that found Trump was protected from criminal charges related to his “official activities” as president.

Trump faces four federal crimes in the case, including conspiracy to defraud the United States. New evidence in Smith’s documentary includes accounts of Trump and his operatives insisting that the 2020 election was marred by voter fraud, even though GOP-aligned officials told the former president that such claims were false.

In a Thursday post on her Substack blog, Mary Trump, a psychologist who is often critical of her uncle, highlighted several parts of Smith’s testimony, including detailed accounts of Trump agents who “were trying to create chaos rather than clarity” in the state. Polling places under inspection for voter fraud. She also recalled Smith’s testimony regarding the former president’s actions on January 6, 2021, when Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol while Congress was certifying Biden’s victory.

“Because Donald Trump has been so successful in using the legal system to his advantage, there is no way this case would go to trial before the election,” Mary Trump wrote, referring to the former president’s slew of other legal challenges that have had their hearing postponed until after the election in 2024. “Due to the corrupt, illegitimate majority in the Supreme Court, there is a real possibility that this case will not go to trial at all.”

“That’s why it was critical that Judge Chutkan and Jack Smith brought this information to the electorate before November 5,” she added. “We deserve to know all the damning details about the depth of Donald Trump’s depravity. We must know that the Republican Party’s presidential nominee and the traitor they continue to support, almost unequivocally, was engaged in a conspiracy against the American people. “

Newsweek reached out to Trump’s office for comment by email on Thursday.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges in Smith’s indictment and steadfastly maintains his innocence. He also accuses prosecutors of trying to interfere with his chances for a second term in the White House.

The former president’s defense attorney sought to suppress much of Smith’s document, which was already heavily redacted, by arguing that the Justice Department wanted to release a “politically motivated manifesto” shortly before the election.

Chutkan, however, rejected that argument, writing in a court filing Wednesday that such “allegations, for which defendant provides no support, continue a pattern of defenses that focus on political rhetoric rather than raising legal issues.”

On Wednesday, Trump lashed out at Truth Social, claiming that “the release of this false and unconstitutional (January 6) briefing” was “another obvious attempt by the Harris-Biden regime to undermine and weaponize American democracy and ELECTION INTERFERENCE PRESIDENCY IN 2024.” “

“Deranged Jack Smith, the chosen prosecutor of the Harris-Biden Justice Department, and the Radical Left Democrats of Washington are HELL DETERMINED to further weaponize the Justice Department in order to stay in power,” the former president added.
