SANDALS South Coast recently concluded its highly anticipated two-day “Attitude Fest”, an internal initiative aimed at improving guest services and boosting employee morale.

Recognizing the importance of maintaining a motivated and cohesive team, the resort’s Learning and Development Manager, Tevin Simpson, designed the workshops to directly address this need, ensuring the resort continues to provide exceptional guest services.

“Attitude Fest was designed to generate positive energy, strengthen team cohesion, and directly improve the guest experience. We always focus on improving our team members, not only professionally, but also on improving their personal development, and this event provided them with knowledge they will be able to apply to both areas of their lives,” said Simpson.

In the run-up to the workshop, departments were tasked with creating videos aligned with the current viral Demure Challenge that is circulating on social media. These videos capture how they offer unique and elegant services to their guests while piquing the team’s interest.

During the two-day workshop, participants took part in a variety of interactive activities, storytelling sessions and hands-on exercises.

Key features of the event included presenters who guided team members through using a specially designed toolkit to demonstrate how a positive attitude can lead to better behaviors and outcomes in real-world guest service scenarios, motivational stories of resilience shared by industry leaders, and activities focusing on self-discovery and personal reflection.

The workshops were met with enthusiasm and positive involvement of team members from all departments. Many people expressed appreciation for the opportunity to reflect on their roles and how their attitudes directly impact the guest experience.

“The personal stories shared by the presenters touched and inspired me and motivated me to take a fresh look at my work, the department and the center in general, and how one person can, even in the smallest way, make a big impact” added the center’s front desk agent Demesha Adams.

According to CEO O’Brian Heron, “Attitude Fest is expected to have a lasting impact on the work culture at the center. By directly addressing concerns about staff morale and guest service, the event laid the foundations for a more cohesive and supportive work environment; a renewed sense of purpose; the tools, skills and mindset to support long-term improvement.”
