Three people have been arrested in connection with a Sept. 28 shooting in Marietta that left one woman with facial injuries.

Kylar Wilson, 20, of Marietta, was arrested Tuesday by Marietta police on a first-degree felony charge of attempted murder. Ashton Dugan, 20, and Brendon Pierce, 18, both of Parkersburg, were arrested Wednesday by Parkersburg police on charges of attempted aggravated assault, one third-degree felony count of tampering with evidence and one second-degree misdemeanor count: According to the police chief in Marietta, Katie Warden, obstructing official business.

“We were able to determine that it was Mr. Wilson who shot the woman.” The guard said.

According to court records, Wilson, who lives at 725 1/2 Front St. in Marietta, was arraigned Wednesday in Marietta Municipal Court, and the Washington County Jail website shows him there.

Court records show Pierce and Dugan, who live at 3109 Elm St., respectively. in Parkersburg and 1046 Laird Ave. in Parkersburg, were arraigned Wednesday in Wood County Magistrate Court.

The North Central Regional Jail website doesn’t show Dugan or Pierce there, but the warden says they should be in jail or about to be transferred there.

Two suspects were detained but not arrested the night of the shooting.

The vehicle containing Pierce and Dugan was stopped in Parkersburg on September 28, but they were not arrested "at the time (we) did not have sufficient probable cause to arrest," The guard said.

Not all suspects involved in the shooting have been arrested.

“It was a shooting involving four people.” The guard said. “We have identified a fourth person. The entire incident is still under investigation. We had probable cause to arrest three of the four (people).”

Warden said there is no threat to the public unless the fourth person involved in the shooting is arrested.

She did not provide a date when the person would be charged. The decision will be made by the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office. She could not provide a timetable for the arrest of the fourth suspect.

According to Warden, Marietta police found 38 shell casings at the crime scene, and evidence is still being sent to laboratories.

She said the investigation into the shooting could not be completed within 24 hours given the number of people and amounts of ammunition involved.

Marietta police were responding to a call at 12:55 a.m. Sept. 28 at Fourth and Putnam streets when they heard multiple shots fired downtown, so they went to the parking lot of Advanced Auto Parts at 200 Greene St. and found a bystander who had been shot in the face but was still conscious.

“The scene was chaotic… we were able to stabilize the situation until we called investigators to the scene.” The guard said.

She said that in her 25 years on the force, she had never seen the amount of gunfire that occurred during the shooting.

“It’s extremely unusual.” The guard said.

Marietta police don’t know whether the four gunmen were trying to hit the woman or if she was at the wrong palace at the wrong time.

“We’re still trying to put it together.” The guard said.

Police said the victim was transported to the hospital the night of the shooting and has since been released.

“He’s doing really well.” The guard said.

According to Warden, Marietta police will not release the victim’s name or release information about a motive for the shooting or any information about the weapon at this time. She confirmed that the weapons used in the shooting were handguns and that four people were involved in the shooting.

She said the shooting was not gang-related and none of the suspects had gang ties.

According to the Marietta Municipal Court website, Wilson has a bond hearing scheduled for 1 p.m., Oct. 7, and a preliminary hearing for 1 p.m., Oct. 9.

Dugan and Pierce’s cases have been transferred to Wood County Circuit Court and no further information is available about them at this time.
