For designer Barbara Fisher, discovering handmade treasures while traveling around the world to places like Italy and Morocco has become a lifelong passion.

“The best part of traveling is discovering,” says the globetrotter. One of her favorite finds is a handmade, massive lapis bracelet that she discovered in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. “There were several local artisans selling goods on the roadside. There was nothing in the area except desert and artists selling their works,” he says.

Fisher, of Southold, has owned her design firm, Barbara Fisher Interiors, since 2017 and recently opened her first brick-and-mortar venture.

The Greenport store, located in a Victorian house, is both a design studio and home furnishings store, offering a wide range of home goods such as hand-woven wool rugs made in Afghanistan and fashion accessories such as handmade hats from France.

When it came time to choose a location for her first store, Fisher knew she “wanted a space that was warm and inviting, with lots of sunlight.” She and her husband Gary discovered this place on their anniversary trip to Greenport. “This gem of a Victorian home ticked all the boxes,” he adds.

He describes the store as a “luxurious yet accessible showroom” where prices range from $42 for a bud vase to $8,000 for a hand-knotted rug.
