Melania Trump defends abortion rights in her upcoming memoir, according to a Guardian report

WASHINGTON – Former first lady Melania Trump defended abortion rights in her upcoming memoir and wrote that the government should not interfere with a woman’s right to choose, according to an exclusive report from the Guardian.

“It is imperative that women be guaranteed the autonomy to decide their preferences regarding having children, based on their own beliefs, free from any government intervention or pressure,” Trump writes in his book Melanie which will be released on October 8.

Her views stand in stark contrast to those of her husband, former President Donald Trump, who during the campaign celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade and said he was proud to be “the most pro-life president” in history.

Abortion is the main issue of the 2024 elections.

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to decide what she does with her body? A woman’s fundamental right to personal freedom and to her own life gives her the right to terminate her pregnancy if she so desires,” the report adds.

But in a new X post on Thursday, Trump said in a video that there is “without a doubt no room for compromise when it comes to the fundamental right that all women are born with: individual liberty.”

Donald Trump has expressed various views on abortion, most recently saying on Truth Social that he would veto a national abortion ban after indicating in March that he was open to a 15-week federal abortion ban. In April, he argued that abortion legislation should be left to the states.
