Jennifer Hudson charmingly grills her boyfriend, often commenting on his marriage

Appearing as a guest on Thursday’s episode Jennifer Hudson Show, Hudson, 43, sweetly grilled her boyfriend about his recent comments about marriage.

While performing on Breakfast Club in July, Common, 52, said: “I’m going to get married, it’s her. It’s simple.”

Echoing her sweet yet bold declaration, Hudson called out her man on live TV.

“I heard you even talked about marriage,” the singer said. – What is it about? I just noticed that.

Common didn’t deny or retract his earlier comments – in fact, he doubled down on them!

“You know what, you told me a quote your mother said: ‘A man knows what he wants,'” he reminded Hudson. “I said what I really feel, listen, Jennifer is the person. If I’m going to get married, I’m going to marry Jennifer Kate Hudson. I was just being honest.”

When Common asked the EGOT winner about her thoughts, she sweetly admitted that she was totally interested in tying the knot with the rapper, calling it a “beautiful idea.”

“You know what? My mom was right. “I think if she met you she’d say, ‘I don’t know about the rest of you, but this Common guy doesn’t bother me!'” Hudson said. “That’s what she would say and I would agree with it. I think (marriage) is a beautiful thing. I think you are a worthy man and, you know, I support this idea.”

The pair then held hands in an adorable embrace, drawing cheers from the audience.

“I think it’s a beautiful idea. I’ll say it!” Hudson said. “Now, wait! You know, if it ever gets to this point, at the right time. You know, we’ll make that decision.”

“I’m listening to God more and more and I know what the purpose is, and I feel like that’s the purpose here, you and me,” Common, whose real name is Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr., said.

The Grammy winner didn’t come to his girlfriend’s talk show empty-handed. Common gave Hudson not one but two sweet gifts: a stunning hummingbird necklace and a cheetah-print blanket embroidered with the tile of her upcoming holiday album, Gift of Love.

“Jennifer likes gifts. She knows different love languages, but she likes gifts,” Common said as Hudson opened her gifts, American Idol the alum added, “He likes affirmations and words and things like that.”

Hudson also had something for the man to honor him with The Jennifer Hudson Show Joyful Spirit Award.

“You are every inch of it. You continue to make the world a more joyful place for me and all of us. There is no one else like you,” she said, praising Common.

“What I love most about him is that he is a praying man,” she gushed. “OK, yes. And he is a man of his words. He is unlike anyone I have ever met in my life. I’m talking about choosing joy. You are joy. You are my joy and you are my light.”

The pair shared a quick kiss as Hudson presented the award to Common. Hudson also joined Common and Pete Rock to perform the song “A GOD (There Is)”.

Common and Hudson dating rumors first surfaced in 2022, when the Chicago natives were spotted together in their hometown. Two seemingly confirmed their romance in January 2024, when Common appeared The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Hudson suddenly introduced Common before walking out to the set with a large bouquet of flowers in his hand.

“Now we must get down to business, Mr. Common. I’m the host, so I have to ask you this question because everyone always wants to know – are you dating anyone? Hudson asked him in an interview.

The “Glory” rapper laughed before confirming that he was indeed dating someone, and while he didn’t name names, it became clear pretty quickly that he was referring to The Jennifer Hudson Show host.

“I am in a relationship with one of the most beautiful people I have ever met in my life,” he said. “She’s smart, she loves God, there’s something really down to earth about her, she’s talented.”

Common continued, “But I set high standards for myself because she had to have EGOT.”

Both Hudson and Common have children from previous relationships. Hudson has a 15-year-old son, Daniel, with ex-fiancé David Otunga, and Common has a 27-year-old daughter, Omoye, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Kim Jones.
