Nick Ball prepares to defend his WBA featherweight world title against Ronny Rios at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool tonight. The 27-year-old hometown legend currently has an undefeated record of 21 fights, including 20 wins over top opponents such as Jesus Ramirez Rubio, Isaac Dogboe and Ludumo Lamati, as well as one draw against Rey Vargas earlier this year.

Even though Ball only recently won the featherweight belt this summer – following a split decision victory over Raymond Ford in June – Ball will have to defeat a formidable opponent tonight in Rios if he wants to retain it. Rios has amassed an impressive professional boxing record of 34-4 with 17 knockouts to his name.

The American, despite being seven years older than Ball, has shown that he still has quick hands and considerable strength in the ring, as evidenced by his fifth-round knockout victory over Nicolas Polanko in April. As we look forward to the exciting clash between Liverpool Ball and American Rios, here’s everything you need to know about the clash – from the moment both fighters step into the ring to how you can watch it from home… .

Nick Ball: “The way I fight, it can force stoppages, you know? I have the power, I can knock people out 100 percent, yes. But at the same time, I’m ready for 15, 20 rounds. Never mind. it is possible that the belt will remain where it is.”

Ronny Rios: “I have to do everything in my power to get this belt back. I know he will fight for it, and so will I. October 5th will be a struggle for the fans. I know you come to fight, I come to fight – all the handshakes and everything disappears when the bell rings.”
