WoW 20th Anniversary – Events, Rewards, Release Date

World of Warcraft has officially survived (almost) 20 years. This is a remarkable feat for a game that has had so many ups and downs over the years, and which requires players to be willing to have a perpetual subscription to play it.

Its tenth expansion, The War Within, was released recently and players are still hard at work discovering everything it has to offer. They work on learning how to play the new main game using new hero talents, find secret mounts, and much more. At the beginning of the tenth expansion, it celebrates its 20th birthday. 20 years is a milestone worth celebrating on a grand scale. Blizzard is trying to organize a celebration worthy of 20 years.

Release date

At the time of writing, Blizzard has not announced an official release date for the anniversary event. They stated that it would last through November and December. Current community speculation is that the event will likely start on October 22, 2024 and last until January 4, 2025.

Classic time travel

In addition to the anniversary event, this update will also introduce classic time walks.
Classic time travel will allow players to relive some of WoW’s most iconic dungeons. This includes both wings of Dire Maul, both wings of Stratholme, Zul’Farrak and The Deadmines. The Classic Time Walking seller will sell rewards similar to other Time Walking sellers.

Additionally, old time traveling vendors are updated with new items for sale. Players will still have to wait until these expansions come back in time to purchase new rewards, but rewards are being added.

Let’s take a look at all the content/events that will be available before taking a closer look at each of them individually:

Blackrock Depths was one of WoW’s most iconic pieces of content. For its 20th anniversary, Blizzard is bringing back the game in raid form. Here’s a summary of its most important details:

The raid will be available for the duration of the event and will provide item level equipment comparable to Nerub’ar Palace in The War Within.

The event opening the gates of Ahn’Qiraj is one of the most important in the history of the game. It featured long and grueling quest chains that required entire guilds and servers to work together, a title and mount that only one person per server could obtain, constant fighting against enemies near gates, passing supplies, and much more.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary, players will revisit this area of the world with Chromie. It will use the “Code” to allow players to revisit specific events from Warcraft’s past.

Scenario:

An anniversary event is a celebration of history and the past, which is why Caves of Time is always relevant for anniversary events and the 20th anniversary event is no exception. Players can visit the Caverns of Time to take part in various games and events.

Fashion frenzy

Fashion Frenzy is a transmog competition that works similarly to the Trial of Style. Players are given a specific style, category or theme and have a limited time to put together the best outfit possible. Then there will be a vote to select the winner.

Lorewalker Cho’s story time

Lorewalker Cho received his own stage. Players can sit on various benches to join the audience and listen as Cho tells stories about Azeroth’s past. This event does not require player participation and is intended solely for the pleasure of listening to Cho tell stories.

Mount Mani

Mount Mania will likely be quite a popular game during the event. Inspired by editing competitions run by various content creators over the years, most notably Asmongold. The goal of Mount Mania is simple.

The NPC will get on a random mount. Players then have a limited amount of time to look through their journal to also get on the same mount. Whoever is last standing wins. This event even includes some of the rarer mounts in the game. For most people, winning will probably be difficult.

Pet corner

This is a small event where players can show off their Battle Pet collection. It will also allow players to transform into their pets from time to time. Is there a reason for this? NO. I’m just doing it for fun.

Other events include:

Bosses of the world

These iconic enemies return as world bosses for players to fight:

While having plenty of things to do is nice, players will really be looking for the juicy rewards. Many prizes will be added to this event, including some strong competitors and many cool additions. Here are the types of rewards players can receive:

Players will receive a new currency called “Bronze Celebration Tokens” that will be required to earn event rewards. It will cost a lot of these tokens to get all the rewards.
