Stephen King rips into Donald Trump: “he’s past his sell-by date”

During this year’s presidential election, author Stephen King criticized former President Donald Trump’s age, writing in a social media post Saturday that he was “past his sell-by date.”

Trump, the Republican Party’s presidential nominee, will face Vice President Kamala Harris, who became the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race on July 21, in November.

King, a vocal Trump critic, has issued several warnings against the former president on social media, previously describing him as a “dangerous” and “terrible” person and president.

In X’s latest Saturday post, previously published on Twitter, the author urged others not to vote for Trump, citing his age.

“Trump is past his sell-by date. Don’t vote for an old man who won’t share his medical records,” he wrote.

Trump has previously refused to release his medical records during previous campaigns. In December 2015, Dr. Harold Bornstein, Trump’s personal physician, wrote a letter stating that Trump would be “the healthiest person ever elected president.”

In 2018, Bornstein told CNN that the medical note he prepared was dictated to him by Trump.

“He dictated this entire letter. I didn’t write this letter,” Bornstein said. – I just made it up as I went along.

In 2019, then-White House physician Dr. Ronny Jackson held a press conference about a study that showed Trump was obese and the Republican had amazing genes and cognitive health. “That’s the way God made him,” Jackson said.

The former president posted the doctor’s letter on his social media platform, Truth Social, last November. The then 77-year-old’s health condition was found to be normal and his cognitive functions were excellent. However, the report has sparked speculation, with commentators questioning its validity because it does not provide specific test results or metrics on key health indicators such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels or body weight.

In response to King’s post, in a statement emailed to Newsweek Trump communications director Steven Cheung wrote Saturday morning: “No one cares what that moron Stephen King has to say. He has not been relevant for 30 years and is desperate for attention because he has passed his sell-by date.”

The issue of Trump’s age gained importance after Biden withdrew from the race and his endorsement of 59-year-old Harris. Since then, Harris has seen an increase in enthusiasm and support, especially among young voters.

Even though Trump is just three years younger than Biden, Trump, 78, has not previously faced the same level of public concern about his age and cognitive abilities. But with Biden stepping down from office as the oldest presidential candidate in U.S. history, these concerns have come to the fore.

Nearly a third of independent voters believe Trump’s age will “seriously limit” his ability to serve as president, survey finds Economist/YouGov poll conducted August 2 among 1,604 U.S. adults. The poll found that 34% believe Trump’s age will be a major issue if he returns to the White House in January 2025.

In particular, 32 percent independent voters who could prove crucial in key swing states believe Trump’s health and age will impact his ability to perform presidential duties if he enters the Oval Office.

This number outpaces the number of independent voters who believe Trump’s age will have “some effect” (29 percent) or no effect (24 percent) on his ability to serve as president.

By contrast, only 7 percent of U.S. adults believe Harris’ age will have an impact on her ability to serve as president, and 80 percent say it will have little or no impact, the survey found. EconomistPoll /YouGov.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s post is the latest from King, who joined the Democratic Party in 1970, attacking the former president.

On Friday, King wrote on X: “You can’t convince Trump voters. I know that, but this man lies like a rug, doesn’t he?”
