Anonymous players explain Taylor Swift’s positive impact on the NFL

There’s been Taylor Swift fever in the NFL since the 14-time Grammy-winning pop icon became the other half of Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. Swift has played a prominent role on Chiefs broadcasts, and her name has appeared throughout the NFL in numerous marketing efforts aimed at expanding the viewing demographic.

While some view Swift’s dominant presence in the NFL as a major distraction, many view her involvement in the sport as a positive. First, an overwhelming majority (72.5 percent) of NFL players surveyed by The Athletic viewed Swift’s involvement as a positive, compared to just 4.9 percent of players who viewed it as a negative.

The goal of professional sports is to entertain as many fans as possible, and as the league grows, there are more opportunities for professional athletes to earn more money. As such, the anonymous player hailed Swift’s influence on the sport as a major boon not only for Kelce and the Chiefs, but also for the NFL as a whole.

“I think it was positive for the league. I think at the end of the day it’s a business and you need to bring it to the attention of as many people as possible. And it gets a lot of attention, so, you know, if it increases the salary cap, I don’t think anyone would be too upset about it,” the player said.

Taylor Swift transcends industries; that’s how popular the name of this country girl from West Reading, Pennsylvania, became. However, the core demographic of its supporters does not necessarily align with the NFL’s core viewership. In this way, Swift became something of a bridge that attracted the interest of many fans outside the sport in the soccer world.

“A lot of Georges who don’t watch football now watch it,” another player noted. “Attracting more people to football games is always good.”

“More fans, wider horizons. He has a lot of fans all over the world. Non-soccer fans will become fans or at least viewers in the United States,” one player added.
