Tropical Storm Milton is forming in the Gulf of Mexico

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The former name of Tropical Depression Fourteen has been updated to Tropical Storm Milton, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center.

Follow the forecast

Satellite data from Saturday morning showed an organized rotation that resulted in the naming of Tropical Depression Fourteen in the gulf. In just a few hours, this depression became Tropical Storm Milton. This system will slowly move in an east-northeast direction before an upper level low system begins to bring it in more quickly. At this rate, this system will likely pass through the Florida Peninsula on Wednesday.

Intensity forecast

In terms of further developments, this system is currently in a strengthening environment and is expected to slowly intensify over the next day. It is then expected to strengthen more rapidly during the business week, with hurricane strength likely to reach the central Gulf of Mexico. Regardless of peak intensity, heavy rainfall and life-threatening flooding are expected across the Florida Peninsula.

What does this mean for the Brazos Valley

Because this system is expected to remain south and east of the Brazos Valley, the moisture and rainfall it produces will not impact our area. This means the current dry streak is expected to continue into October.
