MacBook Pro, Mac mini and iMac models face shipping delays ahead of anticipated M4 refresh

As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman highlighted, custom M3 MacBook Pro, M2 Mac mini, and M3 iMac configurations are currently facing severe shipping delays. If you order today, they won’t arrive until the end of the month.

Shipping delays for custom configurations on outgoing models are common and usually occur when Apple is about to refresh a product. However, this is not a surefire way to know something is coming. For example, iPad mini supplies began to dwindle ahead of Apple’s September “Glowtime” event, and the iPad mini still hasn’t been refreshed during that event.

However, even though it’s not consistent, it’s a good sign. This is usually a sign that Apple is slowing down the production of custom configurations.

As a reminder, Apple is expected to begin transitioning its Mac lineup to the M4 chip family this month, starting with the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, 24-inch iMac and Mac mini. The Mac mini in particular will be an exciting refresh with a completely new design.

All entry-level M4 Mac models are expected to gain at least 16GB of RAM by default. This breaks Apple’s tradition of including 8GB of RAM by default, which the company started doing in 2016.
