Ohio State defense, Emeka Egbuka Clinic vs. Iowa

The Ohio State Buckeyes picked up another convincing victory, defeating the Iowa Hawkeyes 35-7 on Saturday.

Despite dominant defensive play, the Ohio State offense managed to score only seven points in the first half. In the second half, the situation on the pitch certainly changed.

Here’s a player who’s seen his stock go up and players who’ve seen their stock go down for the Buckeyes.

Even though the Buckeyes found the end zone only once in the first half, star winger Emeka Egbuka was ready to play from the opening whistle. His effectiveness continued throughout the match and resulted in three touchdowns.

In addition to scoring 60 percent of his team’s touchdowns in the game, Egbuka recorded 11 receptions for 71 yards.

Egbuka appears to be a future fifth-round draft pick in 2025, and this matchup only makes that more likely.

Reese is having an excellent season so far for the Buckeyes. However, the game against the Hawkeyes was not his best performance.

Despite one tackle, Reese made a costly error on Iowa’s lone touchdown. The Buckeyes were attacking, but when the defenders came in, Iowa started moving the ball.

Kaleb Johnson was held in check throughout the game, but he picked up a pass midway and found some space in the gap left by Reese. Reese took a step to his left and that mistake allowed Johnson to get into the hole, slip a hand and run into the end zone for a pick-six.

This is a great learning opportunity for a young linebacker who is emerging as a potential future star.

Sawyer has been devastating on the field all year long, proving why he is expected to be one of the first edge rushers selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite the enormous pressure, he was a step or two away from numerous sacks.

This time he came home not once, but twice. One of the two sacks also resulted in a demolition and recovery for the Buckeyes. Sawyer also had two tackles.

This type of pressure will soon be important in the game against the Oregon Ducks.

Gee Scott Jr. he is an excellent quarterback and a former Buckeyes winger. Scott not only has great size and good hands, but he can also block hard.

After the touchdown reception against the Michigan State Spartans, I was hoping Scott would get more involved in the receiving game.

Unfortunately, for the entire tight room, they were only targeted once. Will Kacmarek hauled in a lone target. Scott will have to wait another week to get more looks as a receiver.

Cody Simon was once again strong in attack and commanded the middle of the defense. Both he and Sonny Styles led the way with four total tackles, with Simon having three solo tackles.

Simon’s leadership on the field really helped beat Kaleb Johnson when the starters were on the field.
