The government announces 10,000 job vacancies for Kenyans under the New Britain Sponsored Scheme

The Government of Kenya, in partnership with the UK, has announced an open call for 10,000 Community Digital Champions as part of the ‘Strengthening Digital Communities’ project.

The program will be implemented through the Ministry of Youth, Creative Economy and Sports – Department of State for Youth and Creative Economy, Kenya ICT Authority, in partnership with Busia and Mandera County Governments and KICTANet.

The ‘Strengthening Digital Communities’ project aims to reduce the digital divide by equipping local populations with essential digital skills.

The program aims to recruit and train 10,000 community digital champions and support the Government of Kenya’s vision of training 20 million citizens by 2032.

These champions will play a key role in delivering the ICT Authority’s core digital skills curriculum to community members, ensuring citizens gain the necessary digital knowledge to engage in Kenya’s rapidly growing digital economy.

Roles and responsibilities of community leaders

As Social Digital Champions, selected individuals will be responsible for delivering high-quality digital skills training to their communities, with a focus on foundational ICT skills. The role is:

  • Conducting individual training sessions for community members based on the ICT Office curriculum.
  • Supporting interns with constant mentoring, providing them with knowledge and tools enabling their development in the digital environment.
  • Track the progress of training sessions and send regular updates and feedback to project management for evaluation.

Qualifications and job requirements at KICTANet

To apply for the position of Community Digital Champion, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Diploma or degree from a recognized institution. Candidates with ICT certification will have an added advantage.
  • A commitment to take the time to attend training sessions.
  • Ability to train at least 100 community members, primarily through face-to-face sessions.
  • Access to stable internet and a digital device (smartphone, tablet, laptop).
  • Fluency in English, Kiswahili and local dialects specific to their region.

Interested candidates should submit their applications by Friday 11 October 2024 at 17:00 EAT. The recruitment process is managed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Kenya ICT Authority.

This is a part-time advisor position, the contract is for four months.
