23XI race car driver shares behind-the-scenes feelings about lawsuit against NASCAR

23XI Racing driver Tyler Reddick spoke more about his position with the team after the team filed an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR over its alleged unfair monopolistic practices. Despite the ongoing legal battle, Reddick suggested that it will be business as usual for him in preparation for this weekend’s competition at Talladega.

Controversy erupted when 23XI co-founder Denny Hamlin accused NASCAR and its CEO Jim France of allegedly wielding power in the sport in an “unfair manner.” 23XI and Front Row Motorsports initiated legal action by filing an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR in federal court in North Carolina.

The lawsuit arose after both teams refused to support the final NASCAR charter proposal unveiled last month at Atlanta Motor Speedway. After two years of negotiations, a major sticking point remained – NASCAR’s refusal to establish permanent bylaws, which ultimately led to a legal dispute between the teams and the sport.

NASCAR and Speedway Motorsports have exclusive control over the tracks used in their series, effectively blocking the formation of any competing leagues. Additionally, NASCAR owns the next-generation car, which forces teams to purchase parts only from NASCAR-approved suppliers at set prices.

Reddick revealed that the team has already been informed of the current situation. In an interview with Steven Taranto of CBS Sports he said:

“I mean, they let us know what was going on, and yes, basically the same way you heard from Curtis and the lawyers.

– So yes, everything’s fine here.

Added:

“No, I haven’t felt uncomfortable yet. I’ll let you know if that changes.”

In contrast, he revealed that he felt much more uncomfortable when he announced his departure from Richard Childress Racing (RCR) in 2022. He said:

“Well, it was uncomfortable. (leaves RCR)

“In my opinion, it hasn’t been uncomfortable so far.”

Hamlin, who is calling for “positive” change in the sport, said after speaking with his partner Michael Jordan media during the press conference:

“But at the end of the day, you know it’s because you’re threatening, you know, the status quo, threatening people’s jobs and things like that. I just hope it’s not perceived that way, I just see it, you know it is certainly an opportunity for us to try and promote changes in the sport that will be positive for everyone.

“It’s the teams, the drivers, the fans, everyone. So I feel like on our end it was definitely good for me because, you know, it’s not like we just woke up one day and this happened. I’ve been thinking about it for a while and from my point of view it definitely gives me more relief to focus on car 11, and you know what I have to do there, because everything is ready and now other people can do it. comment on this from a legal perspective.”
