First Alert Weather: Yellow Alert Day, severe evening thunderstorms expected

ROCHESTER, NY – A Yellow Alert is in effect for Sunday as a severe cold front is expected to quickly hit Western New York.

Skies will be mostly sunny for most of the day before thunderstorms move in after 4 p.m. The main threats are gusty winds and hail. There is a lower threat for a weak spin-up tornado, but the threat is mainly directed to areas west and south of Monroe County. If these storms persist until 7-8 p.m., they will happen after sunset, which could work to our advantage by limiting the energy of these storms. However, it is expected that several of these storms could become severe. So download the First Alert Weather app on your mobile device to receive updates on severe weather conditions in your area.

Cool temperatures will remain behind this front for most of the week, with highs mostly in the 50s and 60s. Humidity will remain Monday and Tuesday, but we’ll end the week with sunshine and temperatures that will climb back into the 70s by the weekend .
