USMNT’s Folarin Balogun, Johnny Cardoso and Tim Weah at friendly matches

Monaco forward Folarin Balogun, Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso and Juventus midfielder Tim Weah have been ruled out of two upcoming friendly matches of the US men’s national team due to injuries, US Soccer announced on Sunday.

The trio were replaced by Olympique Lyon midfielder Tanner Tessmann, CF Monterrey striker Brandon Vazquez and Club America winger Alejandro Zendejas.

According to multiple reports, Balogun has a dislocated shoulder after scoring in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Rennes, which put Monaco top of the Ligue 1. Cardoso has been struggling for much of the season with an undisclosed muscle ailment that has limited him to eight appearances in the league. all competitions, of which he started only five. Weah was struggling with an ankle injury that limited him to just four appearances for Juventus.

Tessmann, 23, was captain of the U.S. men’s Olympic team last summer and has played twice for the senior team. Since his transfer to Serie A side Venezia, Tessmann has played five matches for Lyon.

Vazquez has scored four goals in eight appearances for the USMNT and returns to the United States for the first time since the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, where he scored three goals. He currently plays for Monterrey in Mexico’s Liga MX, scoring three goals in 12 games this season.

Zendejas, 26, has appeared in seven games for the USMNT, recording one goal and one assist for the USMNT, while appearing in four games in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. Playing for Club América in Liga MX, he recently returned from injury.
