MLB announces scoring change in favor of Cleveland Guardians star

The Cleveland Guardians scored first against the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the ALDS. The first run of the game came from none other than Jose Ramirez, who put the ball into play down the third-base line past Zach McKinstry.

However, the original scoring of the game was an error, and although Cleveland still took the lead, Ramirez was not credited with an RBI.

The result of the game was that Ramirez reached base on a fielder’s call and then committed an error, which meant he technically started the game 0-1. However, after the game ended, the Rangers asked MLB to review the play and change it to a hit for Ramirez.

After review, MLB granted the request and changed the original scoring, awarding Ramirez a double and an RBI. Another consequence of this decision is that Detoirt starter Tyler Holton now scores another earned run to add to his final box score.

This also slightly raised Ramirez’s career batting average in the playoffs. He was previously hitting .236 in the postseason, but has now increased to .244.

This is probably the right decision, and it’s nice to see MLB correcting the original decision.

Jose smoked that ball as it came off the bat at 93.3 miles per hour. Apparently he had something nasty in him too. Did McKinstry play it a bit wrong? Bright. But the ball also bounced at the last second and that’s what allowed it to go past him. Attributing the error to McKinstry doesn’t seem too difficult when you watch the replay.
