Emma Brungardt, 19, reportedly died in a car accident in Kansas on Friday, October 4

The winner of Miss Teen Rodeo 2024 died in a car crash in Kansas.

Colby Community College student Emma Brungardt, 19, was killed and four of her teammates injured in a car crash in Thomas County around 9:44 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, authorities said. Wichita Eagle and KSN News.

The single-vehicle collision occurred at a Y intersection and a private driveway when an 18-year-old Colorado man driving Brungardt and her teammates in a 2007 Ford F-250 truck went “between the Y, striking a row of trees.” According to a report by a Kansas Highway Patrol officer obtained by the media, this caused the vehicle to overturn and turn into an upright position.

The driver and four of Brungardt’s teammates were taken to Citizens Medical Center for their injuries, and she died at the scene of the crash. Wichita Eagle and KSN News.

In a Colby Community College Facebook post after the accident, Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas 2024 described her as a “sweet soul” who “always had a positive attitude.”

“Last evening (Brungardt), along with four other team members and our studio, were involved in a car accident,” the message read as photos of the deceased student riding a horse were shared. “Unfortunately Emma has not moved on from this… We are praying for all the families involved. Her light will live on in and around the rodeo arena,” the post concluded.

According to Colby Community College, Brungardt would major in horse management and production and compete in “goat tying, breakaway and team roping” competitions.

It was later determined that all other team members involved in the accident were from Kansas and were between 18 and 20 years old. Wichita Eagle.

“The Miss Rodeo Kansas Pageant would like to express its sincere condolences to the family of Emma Brungardt, our beautiful Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas 2024,” they wrote on Facebook.

“Emma was a true gem and horsewoman who embodied what it meant to be a rodeo queen, always exceeding what was expected of her.”

“We will miss her infectious smile and one-in-a-million personality. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers as they experience this unimaginable loss,” he concluded.
