Hurricane Milton is threatening Florida’s west coast on the heels of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. After the storm intensified to a Category 3 and then quickly to a Category 4, on the Gulf Coast, residents of the Sunshine State are preparing for the worst. With Walt Disney World potentially in the path of a hurricane, will the Orlando parks close?

When will Hurricane Milton hit Florida?

Milton is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, October 9, and is expected to be circulating throughout Florida by the end of the week. Milton should then develop over the South Atlantic, but meteorologists noted it was too early to predict the hurricane’s exact path.

Is Disney World closing for Milton?

As of Monday, October 7, Disney World remains open, the Walt Disney Company announced in a statement posted on the Orlando parks website. However, Disney also encouraged guests to “prepare for local climates and check the weather forecast for Central Florida.”

“Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating under normal conditions,” the announcement reads. “We are closely monitoring the path of the forecast storm as we continue to prioritize the safety of our guests and cast members.”

According to the parks’ weather policy, if the National Hurricane Center (NHC) issues a warning within seven days of a guest’s scheduled arrival date, the guest may “reschedule or cancel (their) Walt Disney Travel Company Disney Resort hotel package and most rooms only reservations (booked directly with Disney) without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney.”

For Florida todayDisney World has temporarily closed park reservations on Tuesday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 9.

Predicted path of Hurricane Milton

According to the NHC, Hurricane Milton “rapidly intensified to become a Category 4 major hurricane,” the organization announced via X.

Last month, Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region on September 26. The storm moved up the East Coast and ultimately killed more than 200 people in many southern states.
