Duy Lipa’s Teeny-Tiny Hotpants combine punk and cowboy

Everything is bigger in Texas. Except maybe Dua Lipa’s shorts. The English pop star was in the Lone Star State this weekend for the Austin City Limits festival, where she headlined. Even though she worked hard, the “Houdini” singer still found time to explore and put her own unique spin on Texas fashion.

On Instagram, Lipa revealed that she sampled two Texas specialties: shoe shopping and barbecue. However, she brought her own British flair to her outfit. Although large belts, leather vests and sturdy boots are definitely cowboy fashion, Lipa avoided stereotypes. The highlight of her outfit was a leather vest studded with beer bottle caps, keys, strands of pearls, guitar picks and other ephemera. In another context it might be “punk”, but here it looks like her vest was dripping all over the floor of the Honkey Tonk bar after a particularly rowdy night. She paired it with leather shorts that were held in place by a giant belt but provided minimal coverage in the back. Her shoes also seemed to separate British punk and Texas country. You can’t pretend that her Courrèges bag was in any way cowboy, but it’s cute and minimalist enough to go with almost anything.

On stage, Lipa modeled pure pop stardom in a custom Vivienne Westwood leather leotard, but once her duties were done, she returned to the city. In another Instagram snap, Lipa revealed that she tried line dancing in Broken Spoke. Here she kept it simple, choosing high-waisted jeans, a white T-shirt and the ultimate country music accessory: a red Solo mug. Toby Keith would be proud.
