Massive turnout in St. Louis area

The first week of early voting saw a massive turnout throughout St. Louis region.

Ben Borgmeyer, Democratic Director of Elections in St. Louis City, said Election Day is likely to be less busy compared to previous presidential years if 2020 is any indication.

“What we saw in 2020 was the last kind of comparable, in terms of turnout, to what’s going on right now,” Borgmeyer told KMOX Radio. “You saw an easier election day. You saw heavier voting in the early voting period. This could be an example of that.”

Borgmeyer also said lines should be shorter on Election Day if people take advantage of a new law that allows residents of St. Louis to vote at any polling place in the city. But it’s not easy to predict turnout as a whole, just based on early voting, according to Borgmeyer.

“The city of St Louis, (in) past presidential elections, it’s been anywhere from a low of 60 (percent) to a) high of 75 (percent), he said. “I’d be willing to bet that turnout will drop somewhere in between that, but it would be great, you know, if it was higher.”

Borgmeyer said if the participation rate is on the higher end, you can still expect to see results from St. Louis sometime on the evening of November 5th.
