Mahwah vet is giving away lawn signs for Veterans Day. Here’s why

MAHWAH – A township veteran is again giving away free lawn signs to fellow military service members in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

“I’ve been doing this effort on my own for the past three years and this is year four,” John Fesen said. “I have paid for the sign design/graphics, manufacture of the sign and the sign holder. I will not accept any donation if offered.”

The signs read: “Here Lives a Veteran” and “Mahwah Salutes Your Service!”

Fesen, 78, a retired consultant with PepsiCo and Unilever, served as a private 1969-70 at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island. South Carolina. He is currently a candidate for Mahwah Council.

“The goal of my funding this goodwill gesture is to acknowledge, recognize and appreciate the city’s veterans who have served in our nation’s military,” Fesen said. “I think it’s important to identify specific Mahwah community veterans.”
