Dancing with the Stars live scores: Updated results for Ilona Maher, Danny Amendola and more from 2024 DWTS Episode 7

This year’s “Dancing with the Stars” athlete contestants scored across the board last Tuesday for their “Disney Night” performances.

Former Patriots receiver Danny Amendola was awarded the highest score of the night — for the second straight week — dancing a jazz number to NSYNC’s iconic 2000 hit “Bye Bye Bye,” featured in “Deadpool & Wolverine” (2024), while Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik bottomed out with 24.

In addition, Episode 6 marked the return of team dances along with individual routines. All participants and their partners were divided into two groups, which met for extra points. Captains of each team are usually determined by the two dancers with the lowest scores from the previous week – in this case it ended up being Howard and Maher.

After working out their pairs, each group performed a unique number to a different Disney tune. The panel of judges then scored the dances, with each star receiving the same score to be combined with their individual scores from the night.

This Tuesday’s theme is “Halloween Nightmare” in the spirit of Thursday’s holiday, where couples will dance to the tunes of their worst fears. Amendola will perform an Argentine tango to “Poison” by RAVN based on his phobia of snakes, and Maher will also dance a tango to Miley Cyrus’ “Psycho Killer” based on her nightmares about, well…psycho killers.

Nedoroscik and Howard will utilize contemporary style numbers. The gymnast will dance to “I Ran (So Far Away)” by Hidden Citizens based on his fear of the dark, followed by Howard’s boogeyman boogie to “Ring Around The Rosie” by District 78.

How does the Dancing with the Stars scoring work?

The show’s scoring is divided into two categories: Judges and Audience. During the episode, the three judges each give the dancers a score from 1 to 10.

This season, Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli return as judges. Before the audience votes, the judges give the dancers a maximum of 30 points. There are some guest judge appearances and their votes are also out of 10. When a guest judge is included, the maximum score goes up to 40.

This is where the scoring can get confusing. It’s not exactly the number of points a dance gets, but how that number compares to the total number of votes the judges gave. Let’s say the judges award 100 points throughout the round; Dancer A gets 10 and Dancer B gets 20. Before the audience’s votes are tallied, Dancer A will have 10 percent of the judge’s vote and Dancer B 20 percent.

Let’s say Dancer A received 35 percent of the public vote, while Dancer B received only 5 percent. Dancer A’s final score would be 45 percent of the vote, and Dancer B would have received 40 percent. In this example, Dancer A would advance and Dancer B would be eliminated.

Scoring is the percentage of judges’ votes added to the percentage of audience votes for an overall score.
